Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services
Overview of EHS Components
Whether you run Exchange Server in-house or outsource your email through a service provider, Exchange Hosted Services protect your messaging environment, while reducing IT costs and complexity.
Exchange Hosted Services include filtering, archive, continuity and encryption and are licensed through both service providers and reseller partners.
Listed below are the four components of the EHS service, each one of which is priced separately.
Exchange Hosted Archive is a security-enhanced online repository that captures and retains external and internal e-mail, instant messaging, and Bloomberg messaging according to company policy. Access permissions enable various business functions to use the Hosted Archive for compliance-related activities. Organisations get unlimited archive storage capacity per user for a 10-year retention term. You may bring historical data into the archive for a one-time charge, which is priced per GB. Forefront Online Protection for Exchange is required.
Exchange Hosted Continuity is an email continuity service that is always on, which provides your user community with access to the last 30 days of email and the ability to send and receive email in real time, if the primary email system becomes unavailable. Exchange Hosted Filtering is required.
Exchange Hosted Encryption is a policy-based email encryption service that offers customisable policies based on users, keywords, character patterns, attachment types and more to identify messages that require encryption. Exchange Hosted Filtering is required.
Microsoft Forefront Online Protection for Exchange is a fully managed service that employs multiple technologies to help prevent spam, viruses and phishing scams from reaching corporate networks and to help enforce corporate email-use policies. Exchange Hosted Filtering can be purchased as a standalone service and is also included in a number of different Microsoft product suites, including Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite, ECAL, Exchange Enterprise CAL and Forefront Security Suite.

Activation Process
Below is the step-by-step process for ordering and activating any or all of the Exchange Hosted Services.
- Sign an agreement for one of the licensing programmes listed above. Once an agreement has been signed (or if an existing agreement is already in place), place an order through a Microsoft reseller partner.
- Once Microsoft receives the order from the reseller partner, Microsoft's operations team will send an automated email to the Notice's Contact (i.e. the signatory indicated on licensing agreement). This email will instruct to request service activation through Microsoft's online portal where the customer provides the information that is required to provision the service(s).
- Once the activation form has been completed in its entirety and submitted, Microsoft responds to the Notices Contact within two business days if there is an issue with the submitted information, like an invalid agreement number or a mismatch between the information submitted through the activation portal and the order placed. The customer is responsible for submitting the correct information before the service can be activated.
