About Passwords in the Sign In Application

The first time that a user successfully signs in to the Microsoft Online Services Sign In application with their temporary password, they must change it. Afterward, they can change their password at any time by going to the Options tab and clicking Change password. Passwords can also be changed on My Company Portal.

Temporary passwords can be used and then changed only in the Sign In application and on My Company Portal. Users cannot use or change temporary passwords in Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access.

Users may require support from the service administrator when:

  • They try to change a password more than once during a 24-hour period. This is not allowed.
  • They do not understand the requirements for creating a strong password. The password must contain at least seven characters and include a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and non-alphanumeric characters.
  • They have forgotten their password. Passwords cannot be retrieved, so in order for end users to change their password, the service administrator must reset it in the Administration Center. After the user receives a new temporary password, they can use it to sign in and create a new password.
