Mobility Solutions for
Microsoft Online Services

Business today relies on an increasingly mobile workforce. Employees need mobile access to information—including e-mail, calendar, contacts, tasks, and shared content.

Microsoft Online Services offers two services that allow employees access through a variety of mobile phones and devices: Microsoft Exchange Online and Microsoft SharePoint Online.

Devices that can access Exchange Online and SharePoint Online include:

  • Windows Mobile devices
  • Exchange ActiveSync® devices
  • RIM BlackBerry® devices.

Windows Mobile devices

Provide your employees with access to e-mail, calendars, tasks, and contacts from a supported mobile device, all while helping to protect against malware and spam. A simple Web-based console helps to securely administer Microsoft Exchange Online and easily enable access to messages on Windows Phones and Windows Mobile devices.

Phones that run Windows Mobile 6.0 through the latest version, Windows Mobile 6.5, have built-in compatibility with Exchange ActiveSync®. This data synchronization program allows Exchange Online users to take advantage of direct push and remote device wipe functionality.

For more details about the Windows Phone, please see the following:

Exchange ActiveSync devices

Exchange ActiveSync provides synchronization of mailbox data between Microsoft Exchange Online and mobile devices. Mobile devices that are enabled for Exchange ActiveSync allow users to access their e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks on the go. To enhance security, authentication from mobile devices to Exchange Online is conducted over an SSL connection using a password and user name.

Compatible devices include but are not limited to:

  • Nokia E series and Nokia N series phones (Nokia Mail for Exchange required)
  • Apple iPhone 2.0
  • Palm Pre phone
  • HTC Hero phone (Android v1.5 required)
  • Google Nexus One phone (Android v2 required)

Exchange ActiveSync technology is licensed by a number of device manufacturers. Other Exchange ActiveSync devices may be compatible with Exchange Online as well, but require customer or device manufacturer testing.

RIM BlackBerry devices

Microsoft Exchange Online and Microsoft SharePoint Online services are both accessible on BlackBerry® smartphones. For SharePoint Online, use the native browser in your BlackBerry smartphone to access SharePoint Online sites. For Exchange Online, the following descriptions outline two options for accessing your e-mail and other capabilities on a BlackBerry smartphone.
