- 1. What is the i-Café program and what will I get from it?
The i-Café program is Microsoft's response to one of Internet café customers'
unmet needs: secure and dependable computing experience in a shared PC space. By
providing secure software and reliable services to Internet café owners,
Microsoft helps you to improve the customer experience and user productivity on
the shared PCs in your Internet cafés. As a result, you become the Internet café
of choice in your community, thereby increasing your profitability and improving
your competitive position.
Like Internet cafés, Microsoft aims to give more underserved Filipinos access to
technology. Microsoft wants to forge a partnership with Internet cafés to
achieve its shared purpose of empowering more Filipinos with technology,
especially those who cannot afford to own a PC.
Microsoft offers secure and dependable computing in licensing packages that are relevant and affordable for Internet café owners who are looking to serve their customers better and expand their business. In turn, your customers can have access to a rich, secure, and dependable computing experience through genuine Microsoft software, and all of the following benefits:
- Windows Rental Rights Agreement
- Under the current Microsoft Licensing terms (OEM, Full Packaged Product and Open License), there is no right to allow a third party other than the customer to use Microsoft software. This means that even after purchasing genuine Microsoft software, you will not legally be able to "rent-out" the use of Microsoft software. However we understand that in an i-Café scenario, you do this regularly and therefore would be "in breach" of your license agreement with Microsoft. The Microsoft Rental Rights Agreement for i-Cafés seek to rectify this and provide a right to i-Café owners like yourself to allow 3rd parties to "legally" use Microsoft software.
At present, the agreement only provides a right to rent-out the use of Microsoft Windows® operating system and Microsoft Office applications. No other applications are included at this time. To obtain this right to use the Microsoft Windows operating system and applications under this agreement, i-Café owners are required to purchase the relevant Microsoft Rental Rights SKUs being sold with this offer.
