What's New in ASP.NET 4 Web Forms
Alezandra Nicolas

This talk will cover ASP.NET 4 Web Forms and provide a look at future enhancements that the team is proposing. ASPNET 4 Web Forms gives developers much more control over the cleaner markup that is now generated. This makes it easier to build Web applications that have standards in mind. We’ll look at the ability to target xHTML 1.1 and use CSS to style our Web Forms application instead of using strongly-typed properties. With the ability to control element IDs we now have the ability to easily add Ajax functionality. Search Engine Optimization is a key factor in Web applications and Web Forms also has new features such as friendly URLs to help developers accomplish this.  Our demo app will also demonstrate productivity advances by using improved dynamic data features and we’ll include the new QueryExtender which makes filtering of data much easier than before. Finally the Chart control gives us great reporting functionality, and we’ll take a brief look at this productivity enhancement. We’ll finish the session by looking at a number of proposals for enhancements in Web Forms in the future. You can provide feedback for the team in areas such as CSS sprites, new binding and external templates amongst other ideas.

Code Understanding and Systems Design with Visual Studio 2010

Warren Yu

Visual Studio 2010 introduces an entirely new set of architecture tools to aide in both understanding the code you already have and in defining how new systems will be built. In this session, you will discover how you can use new tools like the Architecture Explorer to better understand and comprehend complex systems before making any changes to them. You will see how graphically modeling the code makes it easier to understand the impact of a potential change. We’ll also show you how you can use modeling tools for UML and layer diagramming to describe and communicate the design of a new system—including how these tools can be used to validate the software being developed against its intended architecture.
