Microsoft Philippines wins three Anvil Awards
The Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) awarded Microsoft Philippines with three Anvil Awards for its programs for partners and the local community that enable Filipinos to reach their full potential with the use of technology during the recently concluded 42nd Anvil Awards Night.

Organized annually by the PRSP, the Anvil Awards recognizes excellence in advocating programs that promote public interest and service to the Filipino community.

Out of 178 entries, Kaakbay: A Microsoft Partner Program, Microsoft Partners in Learning (PiL) and Microsoft Unlimited Potential (UP) won Anvil Awards of Merit.

"We recognize the importance of addressing the skills and knowledge divide," said Mark Yambot, Corporate Affairs Director, Microsoft Philippines. "Through the various programs of Microsoft, we are responding to the needs of our community, not only in education, but also learning outside the conventional setting. Moreover, we partner with local companies and assist them as they develop competencies that make them successful in the industry," he added.

Microsoft Philippines launched Kaakbay: A Microsoft Partner Program with an aim to equip its partners with the necessary skills in developing proficiency, building customer support, and increasing opportunities for growth by providing a venue for them to gather resources and gain industry-experience. Kaakbay puts Microsoft partners on center stage by giving them opportunities that make them competitive entrepreneurs, who are also capable of contributing to the over-all progress of the Philippine economy.

PiL is Microsoft's global initiative for education, with localized programs that seek to improve student performance through the integration of information and communications technology (ICT) in the teaching and learning process. PiL programs are implemented in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd).
Recognizing the need to go beyond providing communities with access to technology, Microsoft created the Unlimited Potential program, which is dedicated to improving learning opportunities for individuals outside of formal traditional education settings by focusing on providing technology-related skills through community technology learning centers (CTLCs).

One of the local UP initiatives is Stop Trafficking and Exploitation of People through Unlimited Potential (step-UP). With the Visayan Forum Foundation (VFF), a private, non-profit NGO that works for the welfare of marginalized migrants, CTLCs are set up in various safe houses where the former human trafficking victims are brought while their cases are in progress. Here, individuals receive training on livelihood and IT skills, which will allow them an easier integration into society.

Roland Pacis, Deputy Executive Director, Visayan Forum Foundation, accepted the award for UP with Yambot. "Through our partnership with Microsoft Philippines for step-UP we are able to reach more individuals and offer training that helps them develop technology skills, which opens up more employment opportunities from them, making them less vulnerable to trafficking," said Pacis.
