PLDT, Microsoft and Dimension Data Launch Best-in-class Private Cloud-Computing Solutions
MANILA, Philippines, August 23, 2011 – Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., Inc. (PLDT) together with
global software giant Microsoft Philippines and Asia’s leading IT Solutions company Dimension Data, jointly announced
the commercial availability of Managed Microsoft Solutions in the market, under the PLDT AppFarm Private Cloud Services
The suite of Microsoft’s productivity and infrastructure software offerings that have been added into PLDT AppFarm’s
growing collection of Enterprise-grade cloud solutions, include the latest version of familiar best-of-class enterprise
applications such as Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, Microsoft Sharepoint Server 2010, Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V, said PLDT officials at a press launch held Monday at the Makati Shangri-la
Hotel also attended by Microsoft and Dimension Data global and regional executives.
Under the three-way agreement, PLDT will carry and distribute Microsoft applications under a Service Provider Licensing
Agreement (SPLA), while Dimension Data, a subsidiary of leading Japanese telecoms operator NTT, will provide the necessary
infrastructure and technical support for all projects using its globally-established “Onecloud” framework. The collaboration
among the three industry leaders assemble the strengths of each partner in the different facets of ICT project execution,
from broadband networking, application development, systems integration, up to IT operations management.
The service model is based on a “Private-Cloud” approach, where businesses can fully outsource the end-to-end
implementation of their chosen Microsoft solutions on a turn-key arrangement, while ensuring complete data security and
maintaining full control on the system, with the infrastructure residing at their own premises.
“This partnership allows us to really serve our customers better as this provides them best of class, high quality
services and solutions that are available in ICT today,” said PLDT Senior Vice President Eric R. Alberto.
The PLDT AppFarm Microsoft solution is available through an opex ‘monthly subscription’ arrangement instead of the
traditional licensing model which entails significant upfront investments, including infrastructure and technical support.
With such a set-up, local businesses are provided with a cost-efficient solution without having to worry about significant
capital expenditures and costly operations support.
“Our collaboration with these two companies is the next big step in building up the application portfolio of our existing
cloud computing brand, PLDT Appfarm,” said PLDT Vice-President and Head of Corporate Business Group Jovy Hernandez.
“With our fully managed and subscription-based offering, we are effectively providing ALPHA Enterprises with a compelling
option that allows them to pursue and fulfill their envisioned Microsoft initiatives - to help raise their business
productivity to the level they aspire for,” Hernandez added.
Microsoft’s software portfolio expands PLDT Appfarm’s already well-established cloud computing services. It’s seen as a
huge step in accelerating local cloud computing adoption—beginning a symbiotic endeavor to meet the growing demand from
a highly evolving market. "We are happy with this newest development in our ongoing strategic partnership with PLDT, and
we believe that Microsoft’s dynamic cloud solutions will help bolster PLDT’s existing AppFarm platform,” said John Bessey,
Microsoft Philippines Managing Director. We are all working together in this partnership to make sure that local businesses
have access to the right set of tools and support to drive productivity and business growth through premier cloud
Dimension Data Asia Pacific Regional Director for ASEAN Lim Puay-Koon said, “We have the proven track record in integrating
and virtualising complex network infrastructure and data centres, as well as the capabilities in hosting and managing IT
assets under our onecloudTM framework. The collaboration among our three companies will enable us to help our clients to
accelerate their transition to cloud computing.”
