October 21, 2010, Makati City – Innovation giant Microsoft Philippines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with leading network provider Smart Communications, Inc., for a collaboration to introduce new offerings that promises to transform the Filipinos’ mobile lifestyle.
“We are very happy to join forces with SMART as we bring an enhanced digital experience to the Filipino public through Windows Phone 7,” said John Bessey, Managing Director, Microsoft Philippines. “With this partnership, we hope to maximize the potential of the smartphone market and let the Filipinos take full advantage of the benefits of the mobile lifestyle.”
In the MOU signed today, the two industry leaders formalized their collaboration to bring new offerings that promises to transform the Filipinos’ mobile lifestyle. The Windows Phone 7 promises to fit the capabilities of the PC in a pocket device.
Microsoft and SMART have worked closely together to provide a special combination of service platforms and introduce Windows Phone 7, a different kind of phone with new experiences to the local market.
To be launched in early December in the Philippines, Windows Phone 7 is designed to deliver a mobile experience that has the phone working better for people, bringing together the things they care about most and helping them to get things done faster.
One of its most prominent and useful development is the customizable Start screen with Live Tiles, facilitating a more personal experience, allowing people to quickly see everything they care about on the screen. The Live Tiles provide the user with real-time updates from the Web such as news, appointments or the status and profile pictures of friends. New Live Tiles can be easily created from whatever content a consumer wants, such as applications, websites and music.
Windows Phone 7 breaks the current smartphone convention to help people quickly and easily find and consume data, information and services from the Web and applications. The new phones are distinguished by unique design and integrated experiences built from Microsoft’s innovations such as, Microsoft Office Mobile, Windows Live, Bing and more.
“We are pleased to partner with Microsoft in launching Windows Phone 7 devices in the Philippines,” said Napoleon Nazareno, President and CEO, SMART. “With SMART's superior network coverage powering Windows Phone 7 devices, we will provide mobile phone users a more productive and enriching experience.”
Microsoft and SMART will be holding a series of events leading up to the Windows Phone 7 launch towards the end of the year, including a pre-order campaign and a special preview of the Windows Phone 7 device in time for the holidays.
Founded in 1975, Microsoft (Nasdaq “MSFT”) is the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential.
