Microsoft Philippines holds annual Innovative Education Forum to Bring the Best Learning Practices to Students
2 March 2012, Makati City –Microsoft
Philippines, through its Partners in Learning initiative, today held its annual
Innovative Education Forum. This event is geared towards improving the Filipino
students’ learning experience by integrating technology to their curriculum and
introducing teaching methods that support it.
This forum presents an opportunity for educators, school administrators
and teachers to learn more about the latest and best practices that can further
engage students to become more interested in their studies by incorporating
technology into the teaching and learning processes.
Partners in Learning is Microsoft’s global initiative for education that
is undertaken in close collaboration with the Department of Education where
different schools, students and educators are empowered not only by being
provided the access to technology but also by being equipped with the right
training and tools that enable them to effectively utilize IT in the learning
process and improve student performance. Since the introduction of
Partners in Learning in the country, Microsoft has reached out to over 3,000,000
individuals.
“Education is indeed an important and necessary tool to aid one’s hunger
for knowledge and experience. With this in mind, Microsoft aims to help improve
education through the use of technology, customized training, and strong
partnerships in a way that unlocks the potential of students, educators and
schools. And with our Partners in Learning program, we are giving people the
chance to become globally-competitive when it comes to utilizing technology in
the learning process,” said John Bessey, Managing Director, Microsoft
Philippines.
During the program, Microsoft introduced its partnership with Vibal Group
of Companies as one of its official partners in helping strengthen the learning
and education of the students in the country. Esther Vibal, Chairperson, Vibal
Group of Companies, expressed her excitement towards the said partnership.
“In our almost 60 years as one of the premiere players in the educational
publishing industry, Vibal Publishing has always been committed to providing
quality education to every Filipino. We are joining hands with a global giant
like Microsoft and it goes without saying that we have big hopes and
expectations for this partnership. Today, we commit ourselves anew to bigger
dreams and hopes where education of generations of Filipinos is concerned,” she
said.
Also present during the event was Ruth Legaspi-Fuentes, Head, Special
Programs and Research, Department of Education (DepEd) who shared how DepEd is
continuously developing the learning process of the students and the impact
technology has on creating greater opportunities to the community, most
especially the students.
“The Department of Education envisions a learner who is a holistically
developed Filipino with a mastery of the basic competence, an emotionally mature
individual, someone who is socially aware, pro-active and involved in public and
civic affairs – a learner who is prepared for the world of work and a globally
competitive person who, at the same time, is connected with his roots. We
commend Microsoft for the continued support and for giving due recognition to
our teachers who bravely open themselves to the world of technology,” Fuentes
shared.
Education is an important aspect in aiding one’s hunger for knowledge and
experience. Through the Innovative Education Forum and other various education
initiatives by the government and private companies like Microsoft, more
students and teachers will be able to experience the benefits technology has to
help them unlock their potential.
“We at Microsoft believe that education can lead the way to a better
future. With this in mind, we are aiming not only to bring the Filipino
students’ learning experience to a higher level by integrating technology to
education but we are also bringing the right tools for them to reach their full
potential. Let us work together to empower the students to become more
interested in the learning process by making them aware of the endless
possibilities technology can offer in the field of education,” Bessey concluded.
