Wm. G. Reed Jr. retired from the Microsoft Board of Directors on Nov. 9, 2004 after 17 years of service on the board.

Mr. Reed was born March 9, 1939, in Seattle, Washington. He received his BA degree from Duke University and his MBA from Harvard Graduate Business School.

Mr. Reed joined the Microsoft Board in October 1987. He serves as a director for PACCAR Inc., Washington Mutual, Inc., Safeco Corporation, The Seattle Times, and Long Live The Kings. He served as Chairman of the Board of Safeco from January 2001 through December 2002 and presently serves as lead director. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the University of Washington Business School.

He has been affiliated with Simpson Timber Company and Simpson Investment Company since 1962, served as chairman from 1971 through June 1996, and as a Director through 2002. He presently serves as a Director of Green Diamond Resource Company.
