September 2008

For more than a decade, Microsoft Corp. has been committed to providing intuitive and easy-to-use mapping solutions that help consumers plan ahead and drive with confidence once on the road. Microsoft has taken its commitment to the next level with the launch of two new products: Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009 and Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009 with GPS Locator. With tools and features to help create custom routes, set driving preferences, find nearby places, plan breaks and calculate gas costs before hitting the road, Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009 products will help consumers save valuable time and money along the way.

Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009 with GPS Locator combines the No. 1 best-selling1 travel and mapping software for the U.S. with a Pharos Science & Applications Inc. Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009 with GPS Locator helps consumers calculate the most efficient route and then guides them to their destinations with spoken street names.

Features:

Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009 includes the following features:

Keyword search helps consumers quickly find listings near their location by entering words such as “coffee” or “restaurant.” Search results automatically refresh as users move around the map, so they readily have the most relevant information.

Mapping data includes more than 6.2 million miles of local, city and highway roads and more than 1.5 million points of interest across the U.S. and Canada, including hotels, restaurants, ATMs, national parks and more.

Advanced route planning and travel tools help travelers stay on track and easily make quick adjustments to their trip while en route:

Live Search Maps is just a click away for providing travelers with additional maps and aerial imagery.

Road construction updates, available online at no additional charge, helps consumers save valuable time by providing alerts about local, state, national (U.S.) and international (Canada) construction and road closures.

More ways to customize maps and routes offer every driver the power to plan trips based on personal travel preferences, whether going on a cross-country journey or planning a half-day of errands:

Find Nearby Places allows travelers to search a radius up to 50 miles to find select points of interest, as well as detailed directions and contact information.

Personal Driving Profile allows travelers to customize maps and directions to accommodate their preferred travel style. Features include the ability to set times to begin and end each travel day, track the number and duration of rest stops, measure their average driving speed, and indicate preferred road types.

Fuel consumption management makes it easy for consumers to keep their fuel costs down even as fuel prices continue to rise, and helps them calculate a trip’s gas expenses before leaving home.

Advanced address searching helps users locate street addresses and points of interest across the U.S. and Canada. Consumers also can import their contacts directly from Microsoft Office Outlook and Excel into Streets & Trips 2009.

Office drawing and map annotation tools allow travelers to personalize their maps and directions with customized images, icons, text, lines, shapes, arrows, pushpins and more.
