Jean-Philippe Courtois, President of Microsoft International, outlines how Microsoft's major investments in Europe this week underscore the company's commitment to realizing individual opportunity and unlocking entrepreneurial talent. Microsoft has announced the company will award €1.5 million in cash grants to 17 European NGOs who help youth gain workforce skills, as well as the launch of a new AppCampus program in partnership with Nokia and the University of Aalto in Finland. Microsoft and Nokia will each invest up to €9 million in the latter program over the next three years to support innovation and growth among mobile startups.

Microsoft is today announcing it is awarding 17 European nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) with €1.5 million in cash grants to support youth with the development of essential workforce skills, and a total of €170 million in software donations to NGOs and nonprofit organizations across Europe this year. This latest investment comes as Europe marks the beginning of e-Skills Week. Through the grants, Microsoft is reinforcing national employability and workforce development programs designed to give youths access to technology and training to develop the IT skills they need to be prepared for today's job market. The software donations are part of a long-term effort by Microsoft to help organizations use technology to improve their operations and increase productivity. Microsoft: Cloud Computing to Create Millions of Jobs
