BBC: Students in global competition use technology to troubleshoot

Students from all over the world are trying to use mobile, PC, and gaming technology to solve problems in areas such as health and the environment. This year's finalists in the annual Microsoft Imagine Cup in New York include a team trying to help visually impaired children read notes from the blackboard. Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer spoke to BBC technology reporter Ian Hardy about the aims of the competition. Watch here the full interview.

New Use for Kinect: Teaching Kids in Africa

Microsoft employee Larry Venter, a native South African, had a hunch that Kinect for Xbox 360 could help the children at a rural school in his hometown get excited about learning English and that gaming could help in the fight against widespread illiteracy. CNBC: United Nations' use of Microsoft's ITPAC datacenter technology

On March 31, 2011, Microsoft Corp. announced its ITPAC datacenter technology will be utilized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as part of the energy-efficient IT infrastructure for a new UN office in Nairobi, Kenya, aimed at being energy neutral. Officially inaugurated by UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon and UN Under-Secretary General and UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner, the new office building in Nairobi is intended to produce as much energy as it consumes and is the first of its kind for the UN in Africa.
