Microsoft: Premium Brands Missing Up to 50% of Audience Through Reliance on Demographic Targeting

Microsoft Advertising has today unveiled new research that identifies a category of consumers who buy 'premium' despite the fact these products are, on average, over 20 per cent more expensive than a standard purchase. The study also reveals that the premium category is much larger than demographic targeting might indicate - which assumes it is only 'affluent' individuals who buy premium products.

MSN is hosting Director James Cameron as a "Guest Editor" in celebration of his film Avatar arriving on Blu-ray Disc and DVD. A specially created hubsite on MSN including immersive video and multimedia content features the film maker providing his insights and commentary on a range of topics including the environment, space travel, the future of 3D entertainment and the making of Avatar. The hubsite is available in several international markets including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, and content will be accessible to consumers through early May. The appointment of Cameron as Guest Editor follows an alliance between MSN and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, the studio behind Avatar.
