Corporate Vice President, Mobile Services

Brian Arbogast is corporate vice president of the Mobile Services organization within the Entertainment and Devices Division.

His teams are responsible for delivering the mobile services strategy, platform, and experiences for Windows Live and Windows Mobile, as well as the strategy, platform, and integrated services for network operators and other syndication partners, bringing compelling services to a fast-growing user base. These R&D efforts span campuses in the U.S., China, Israel, and Portugal.

Arbogast has more than 20 years of experience in building and leading teams that deliver innovative software solutions.

Arbogast joined Microsoft in 1986 as a software developer. He was a technical lead on Access 1.0, after which he left Microsoft and traveled extensively. He returned 15 months later as the group manager for Access, and in 1996 built and led the team that delivered Visual InterDev 1.0. He gained responsibility for Visual Studio in 1997, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and Office Developer in 1998, and MSDN in 1999. He was promoted to corporate vice president in early 2000 and has been focusing on software + services since then.

He most recently managed the Windows Live Developer and Communications Platform team within the Online Services Division. His charter included developing the core technology behind Windows Live mail, calendar, contacts, storage, instant messaging, VoIP functionality, Microsoft's online identity services and the delivery of a broad developer ecosystem around the Windows Live platform, along with extending Live services to mobile devices and operators.

Arbogast earned a bachelor's degree of mathematics in computer science from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.
