Bill Baker is a Distinguished Engineer and the general manager of Business Intelligence (BI) applications for the Microsoft Office Business Platform team at Microsoft. He leads the team of programmers, testers and program managers that built the Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server. PerformancePoint is Microsoft’s entry into the rapidly growing performance management arena. It offers planning and forecasting, scorecarding and analytics including the ProClarity line of products.

Baker joined Microsoft in 1996 as general manager of the Internet Application Server Group. He is an industry recognized authority on BI, and frequently speaks and writes about BI on behalf of Microsoft. He has also led the SQL Server Business Intelligence Unit, where his teams designed and developed SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis Services, SQL Server Reporting Services, and SQL Server Notification Services.

Baker’s background includes more than 26 years of experience in enterprise computing and data warehousing product development at Oracle/IRI Software, Softbridge Microsystems, and Interactive Data Corporation. Earlier in his career he worked as an economist, specifically in econometrics.

Baker holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He and his wife live in Woodinville, and have a son in college. Outside of work, Baker enjoys woodworking, photography and classic cars.
