Darren Shakib is Distinguished Engineer in the Online Services Group managing the Search infrastructure team. He focuses on designing and building systems to efficiently run Search and OSD services at high scale. His teams include AutoPilot for managing and operating servers in datacenters, Cosmos for distributed storage and processing, and the Search data-mining team for data management and analysis. Shakib joined Microsoft in 1990 after receiving a BS in computer engineering from NCSU. His career began as a developer on Mail 3.0 and Schedule+ 1.0. He moved to work as a lead on Schedule+ 7.0 and as a key contributor on several releases of Exchange. He then moved to work in the SQL group on WinFS before joining the Search team as an Architect. Shakib holds 17 patents. Shakib is married with three children.
