Microsoft Distinguished Engineers

Anders Vinberg is a Distinguished Engineer working in the architect of the Windows and Enterprise Management Division, which is responsible for technical direction across Microsoft’s management initiatives: both the management infrastructure that goes into Windows and the management products in the System Center family. This includes SMS, MOM and DPM. The management vision is known as the Dynamic Systems Initiative, and is founded on models, policy and virtualization technology.

Before joining Microsoft Vinberg worked for 14 years at Computer Associates as a Senior VP on products, including databases, application development tools, accounting, mainframes, midrange, and PCs. For much of the 90s he was the principal architect of Unicenter, CA’s flagship enterprise management system.

Vinberg grew up in Sweden, and holds a M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. In 1976, he came to the U.S. and joined ISSCO, a pioneering graphics startup—the first company to draw business graphics in a font other than Courier and in colors other than red, green or blue. Anders was in charge of R&D, doing the first publication quality graphics on mainframes and Crays and UNIX workstations for 11 years, until the company was sold to CA, and they began the first steps on the path from graphics to systems management.

When not thinking about Microsoft business, Vinberg lives with his wife in Kirkland. He enjoys skiing and boating, and the freedom of having the little darlings off at college.
