Mary E. SnappCorporate Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Law and Corporate Affairs Department Updated: September 30, 2008 Mary Snapp is Corporate Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of the Platforms and Services practice group in Microsoft's Law and Corporate Affairs department. She leads the work of about 70 attorneys and legal professionals who provide front line legal support to all of Microsoft's Platforms and Services Division, which develops and markets Microsoft Windows, Windows Live, and Microsoft's Search, Advertising Platform and MSN products and services. Under Mary's leadership, the Platforms and Services legal practice group counsels the division on a wide variety of matters, including complex commercial transactions, intellectual property licensing, development and design of products and services, and compliance and regulatory advice. Mary is an active member of the American Bar Association (ABA) Forum on Communications Law, and serves on the ABA's Division for Public Education's Standing Committee on Gavel Awards. She is a frequent presenter on issues of privacy and intellectual property licensing. Snapp is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association. Mary has been active as a community volunteer and on the Boards of Directors for a number of human services and arts non-profit organizations over many years in the Puget Sound Region. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the YWCA of Seattle, King and Snohomish County. She is the immediate past chair of the Board of Trustees of ArtsFund. Mary began her career with Microsoft in 1988, when she joined the Law and Corporate Affairs department as an Attorney. Prior to joining Microsoft, Snapp was an attorney with the Seattle law firm now known as K & L Gates. Before that, she worked in the Public Relations Department of General Motors as a presenter, staff writer and policy analyst. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Kansas, and of the University Of Michigan School Of Law, where she was Articles Editor for the Journal of International Law. She also holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University.
