Editor's note – April 17, 2009 – Suri Raman left Microsoft as of April 17, 2009 to pursue other interests. Suri Raman was a Technical Fellow working with the Microsoft Office Live team. In this role, Raman was responsible for working across the organization to optimize architecture, scenarios, and the user experience for Microsoft Office Live services. He also helped guide the strategic technical vision for Microsoft Office Live by analyzing potential build, buy, and partner scenarios, and exploring white-space opportunities. Raman joined Microsoft in 1988 directly out of school, and spent the next 13-1/2 years engaged in software development. During this time, Raman played an instrumental role in the design and development of Outlook and InfoPath. His work on both of these products provided him with keen insight into the development of network-based productivity applications, and he holds some core technical patents in this area. During this time he earned the title of Distinguished Engineer. Raman left the company in 2002 and founded Trimergent. He served as the company’s CEO and main architect, developing an innovative approach to information management built on top of search technology. Microsoft acquired Trimergent in 2006 and Raman rejoined the company in February 2007. Raman enjoys the challenge of innovative software product design, simple user metaphors, Internet technologies and XML-based architecture. “Over the years, even as my role has changed, I have continued to stay a developer at heart. I like to stay actively involved with the actual development process – from design to coding to testing.” Raman holds a B.S. in Computer Science from IIT, Madras (Chennai), India. |
