Tom GibbonsCorporate Vice President, TV & Service Business, Interactive Entertainment Business Updated: March 16, 2011 Tom Gibbons is corporate vice president of TV & Service Business within Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business. He is responsible for driving subscriptions, usage and global partnerships for the TV & Service Business. Experienced in hardware, software and consumer product development, Gibbons leads the Xbox LIVE, Zune, PlayReady and Mediaroom businesses, and also manages the operator partnerships to drive expansion efforts and extend reach through new distribution channels and geographies. Since joining Microsoft in 1993, Gibbons has held a number of management positions including, most recently, corporate vice president of the Mobile Device Strategy and Commercialization group within Microsoft's Mobile Communications Business. In that role he managed hardware development, ecosystem engagement and integration, and oversaw the executive relationships with the Mobile Operator and OEM channels. Prior to that, Gibbons was corporate vice president of the Specialized Devices and Applications group. In that role he supervised the worldwide development and business strategy for groundbreaking business groups that included Surface Computing, Hardware, Automotive Business Unit, Macintosh Business Unit, and Windows Embedded business. Under his leadership the Surface Computing Group launched and deployed Surface, Microsoft's first multi-user touch screen computer. As general manager of Microsoft's Hardware business, Gibbons led a team of more than 200 technologists, ergonomists, industrial designers, and engineers. Gibbons was responsible for designing and distributing innovative hardware devices such as the first-ever scroll wheel, the Tilt Wheel, and wireless optical mice and keyboards. Gibbons also managed products and strategy for Microsoft's Xbox peripherals business. Before beginning his career at Microsoft, Gibbons lived in Osaka, Japan, teaching English. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations and German from Bowdoin College. He lives in Seattle with his wife and twin sons.
