Editor's note - July 8, 2009 - more information on Windows management changes can be found in the Steve Ballmer employee e-mail.

As senior vice president for the Windows business, Bill Veghte had revenue and marketing responsibility for Microsoft's Windows businesses and related online assets. These responsibilities included the business strategy/planning, sales and marketing across Windows, Internet Explorer and Windows Live properties (Hotmail, Messenger, et al). Additionally, he had shared responsibility for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) sales.

Since joining Microsoft in 1990, Veghte has taken on a series of roles that demand a strong combination of technical depth, business vision, customer focus, and strong execution. Veghte has driven a variety of Microsoft's technology and product efforts - from Office to Windows CE to Windows client to Windows Server. He managed Microsoft's Linux compete efforts, managed the development of several Windows client releases and the development and marketing of the Windows Server 2003 and Small Business Server 2003 line of products. He also managed Microsoft's North American Sales and Services organization, growing overall customer and partner satisfaction 18 percent and top-line revenue by over US$2 billion in three years. Most recently, he led the team that revamped the branding and advertising efforts for Windows and helped bring Windows 7 to market.

Veghte's passion extends into the community where he serves on several boards including nPower (www.nPower.org) which is dedicated to helping non-profits use technology to serve their communities. Veghte lives in Seattle with his wife and two sons and is an avid outdoorsman who loves hiking and skiing.
