SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 26, 2000 — As email, messaging and databases increasingly become mission-critical components of large organizations, IT managers need solutions that are easy to maintain yet offer the highest possible availability, scalability and reliability. To help meet those needs and enable IT managers and system administrators to be more productive, Microsoft has joined forces with Hitachi Data Systems and McDATA to create the Trusted Solution Platform (TSP), a packaged combination of hardware, software, services and support that delivers a high-performance Storage Area Network (SAN)-based solution platform for current and future versions of Microsoft Exchange and SQL Server applications.

The Trusted Solution Platform combines Microsoft's expertise and commitment to industrial-strength solutions for the enterprise with Hitachi's reliable, high-performance storage solutions and McDATA's SAN solutions, which are designed specifically to meet the needs of large enterprise customers. TSP is pre-tested and fully supported by Microsoft Product Support Services, and it offers large enterprise customers an extremely robust solution that assures high availability, decreased backup times and lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

"Microsoft and its partners are listening to their customers," said Dan Tanner, senior analyst with the Aberdeen Group. "The timing is right for a high-availability solution for Exchange and SQL server. Large organizations with hundreds of thousands of Exchange users are ready to step up to a more scalable, more robust environment Microsoft, Hitachi Data Systems and McDATA plan to offer customers an aspirin for their IT headaches."
