Microsoft Live Search delivers results with a simple, unique design and advanced tools for helping people quickly find, view, organize and preview search results.

Live Search delivers improved results across product, travel, news, entertainment and video search categories. These improvements mark a milestone in Microsoft Corp.’s efforts toward delivering a better search experience and value for both consumers and advertisers.

Updated Search Features

Live Search cashback helps consumers compare prices and get cash back on more than 10 million product offers from more than 700 retailers, including Wal-Mart, Best Buy and eBay. Consumers sign up for an account, accrue savings each time they purchase a product in the cashback program, and receive their cash back in their cashback account directly from Microsoft 60 days after completing purchases.

Live Search Farecast uses new technology to predict when to buy airfare, helping consumers find the lowest and best deals on travel. In the future, Microsoft will explore the possibility of incorporating a cashback option for travel services purchased through Live Search Farecast.

Live Search News allows consumers to find top new articles from international, national or regional news outlets, while incorporating relevant images, videos and local coverage all on one new Live Search News landing page.

Live Search Images has increased the image index and changed its user interface. With this increase, consumers are now able to search across millions of images and receive relevant results with smart scroll, thumbnail image-sizing customization, filmstrip view and the ability to see the full image without leaving the results page.

Live Search Products helps consumers easily find and discover products, reviews, guides, prices and other relevant information — all within the Live Search interface, giving them confidence in their buying decisions. User reviews at a glance, powered by the new Opinion Index technology, summarizes the sentiment on the Web about a product, which can save consumers both the time and hassle of combing through multiple Web sites for the information.

Live Search Maps updates include enhanced 3-D city models and the facility to load maps, traffic-based routing and walking directions straight to consumers’ portable navigation systems. Also new is the ability to view imagery in bird’s-eye hybrid view across many cities, allowing consumers to view street names laid over bird’s-eye maps, providing better visual context and orientation.

Additional Search Features

Live Search Video, powered by a new in-house video search technology, allows users to search for and browse online video content, and watch high-quality video from the Web. With a new smart motion preview feature, consumers can now preview video within the search results by rolling over the thumbnail of the video.

Live Search 411 allows consumers to find and connect to local businesses and other local information, such as weather updates, movie showtimes and airline information by dialing (800) CALL-411 (225-5411) toll-free from any phone.* People using a cell phone* with Internet access can also receive links to traffic maps from Live Search 411.

Live Search for Mobile is a downloadable application enabling people on the go to use Live Search directly from their Windows Mobile or BlackBerry device. Maps, directions or information — it’s all at their fingertips.

Live Search Toolbar provides access to the Live Search platform from any Web page.

Live Search Academic allows consumers to search through academic information and journals, including computer science, engineering and physics journals.

Live Search Books is advancing the way people search online by digitizing and indexing information from printed material from around the world, representing another step forward in Microsoft’s efforts to answer people’s questions with trusted content from the best possible sources.

Live Search QnA brings a community of real people into the search experience that can help answer a consumer’s toughest questions. Live Search QnA enables consumers to ask and answer questions to further the social networking experience at Live.com.

Live Search Macros is a powerful tool that allows consumers to create their own custom search engines or use customizations created by others who share their interests to make their searches more relevant.

Live Search Local allows consumers to search local business listings, helping them make more informed decisions with rich business details and reviews, all within Live Search.

Live Search Health helps consumers refine health searches quickly using related medical concepts to get relevant health information from a broad spectrum of perspectives, and helps them navigate complex topics with in-line article results from experts such as the Mayo Clinic — all on a single page.

Live Search Entertainment helps consumers stay informed of the latest entertainment news with in-line celebrity answers accompanied by images, video, facts and buzz. In addition, Live Search’s new xRank feature allows consumers to find out how their favorite celebrities, musicians or even politicians rank in regard to total Web searches via a ranking updated daily.

Live Search Instant Answers provides answers to questions at the top of the algorithmic results, so consumers spend less time searching for the information they need. Several new and updated Instant Answer features include Live Search traffic, weather, maps, entertainment, news, product, stocks and health.
