) on the Internet combines the worldwide resources of NBC News and the technological expertise of Microsoft Corp. to provide news and information tailored for the online information age. The site delivers the best of NBC, MSNBC and CNBC, along with original, up-to-the minute, extensive coverage in an engaging and useful style. MSNBC on the Internet features constantly updated news from around the globe, produced to take advantage of the capabilities of the Internet. Interactive, immediate and in-depth coverage of major events and issues from world, national and local news, business, sports, weather, technology, health, lifestyle and travel, and opinions is provided free to visitors on the site (connect-time charges may apply).

Product Overview: The various sections of MSNBC on the Internet are easily accessible from the menu bar on MSNBC's front page, allowing easy navigation from one section or story to another.

News. The News section of MSNBC on the Internet displays top stories from across the country and around the world in a compelling multimedia presentation, complete with photos, graphics and video and audio clips, and an automated slide show with news stories on topics chosen by visitors to the site.

Business. The Business section features up-to-the-minute business news, enterprise stories and collaborations with the Wall Street Journal, CNBC and MSN Investor, all displayed on one easy-to-use dynamic front page. The quote look-up feature taps into MSNBC Tracker service and provides news relevant to the quote requested.

Sports. The official NBC Sports Web site delivers in-depth coverage of the big stories and major sports, with exclusives from NBC Sports commentators and analysts, interactive special reports and interaction with viewers. The sports journalists of MSNBC and the Sporting News incorporate interactive, multimedia features to provide sports fans with a unique perspective on sports events.

Technology. This section is designed to keep users on the cutting edge by exploring the latest developments and profiling the individuals and companies that are making things happen. The section features reviews of hardware, software and games complete with debates, bulletin boards and e-mail feedback. ZDNet works with MSNBC Technology to provide content.

Health. The Health section offers information to help visitors live longer and healthier lives. Virtual Checkup provides a steady stream of quizzes to help people determine if they might be at risk for various disorders. The Health Library provides users with a comprehensive medical library. "On the Cutting Edge," a regular column by Health Editor Charlene Laino, details recent medical breakthroughs.

Living*Travel. MSNBC on the Internet now takes full advantage of the Internet by offering the chance to explore interactively the virtual worlds of movies, music, health, travel, the arts and food. The Living*Travel section keeps users up to date on the latest lifestyle news with opportunities for interactivity such as taking a tour through a virtual art museum, perusing chapters of popular books, reading gossip from former Esquire writer Jeannette Walls, or taking a quiz on Broadway trivia.

Opinions. This section combines one of the Internet's most highly rated op-ed sites with a leading-edge "community desk" operation that provides easy access to MSNBC on the Internet's online bulletin boards and chats. Commentary on the day's political, social, economic and international events is provided by a dozen regular columnists and periodic contributors.

Weather. Information on current weather conditions is available for virtually any spot on the globe. As with all other sections, users can customize it by selecting their local weather report.

Convergence: MSNBC on the Internet is leading the way in the convergence of the television with the computer to create the most comprehensive news product available today. The new site offers links to companion pieces produced in collaboration with NBC News, CNBC and MSNBC Cable, creating an on-demand, interactive experience for the user never before offered. This interactive approach has allowed MSNBC on the Internet to expand the concept of news coverage beyond the traditional boundaries of television or print journalism.

On Air. The new, animated On Air front page now offers previews, in-depth reports and interactive features, including the "Today" series or "Dateline NBC" story excerpts and original reporting from some of the industry's most respected broadcast journalists, including Tom Brokaw, Jane Pauley, Andrea Mitchell, Robert Hager and Brian Williams. The On Air section recently launched the Video News Page, which brings users the best in streaming video from the NBC News operations.

Local news. Offering coverage of local, national and international events, MSNBC on the Internet provides all the news in one place. Links are provided to local news sources in cities across the nation, giving users access to a wide variety of coverage, from high school sports to the newest zoning regulations. Nearly 100 NBC affiliate stations provide this comprehensive local coverage, with additional cities being added continuously.

Personalization: MSNBC on the Internet's Personal Toolkit allows visitors to personalize the news and enhance delivery using the latest "push" technology. Composed of Personal Front Page, Personal Delivery, Personal News Alert and Personal Desktop Tickers, the news report can be designed by visitors to be most relevant to them. The MSNBC Front Page, using Zip Personalization, features breaking stories, top headlines, stock quotes, weather, sports scores and local news. MSNBC's Cool Tools feature delivers relevant, timely news. Choose Your News offers customized news on a personalized front page. Today's Headlines delivers the top headlines of the day by e-mail at preferred delivery times.

Personal Desktop Ticker tracks sports scores, stock prices and top headlines, all of which are updated automatically.

Personal Front Page offers news and information most relevant to individual users. From top headlines, local weather reports and stock quotes to favorite sports scores and local news, the Personal Front Page is delivered on one convenient page.

Personal Delivery sends a Personal Front Page via e-mail every day like the newspaper on a doorstep. It delivers a customized edition of today's news with rich multimedia interactivity.

Personal News Alert instantly notifies users of breaking news without interrupting their work. The alert icon flashes in the taskbar as news breaks, stocks fluctuate or events occur related to user-defined topics. With a single mouse-click, News Alert delivers the headline in a window with a hot link to the story.
