What Is Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile?

Microsoft® Office Communicator Mobile for Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005, based on the user interface of Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 desktop client, is a unified communications client that provides information workers with a premier mobile collaboration experience with enterprise-grade, real-time communications tools. Communicator Mobile takes a step beyond simple voice services, incorporating connected communication modes such as security-enhanced instant messaging (IM), presence awareness and integrated Voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) telephony.

What Are the Features of Communicator Mobile?

Communicator Mobile extends the power of real-time collaboration to Windows Mobile®-based devices and increases potential data revenue for mobile operators by driving demand for business-class devices with enterprise-grade client, adding rich, real-time collaboration capabilities to mobile data networks.

Increased Data Revenue Opportunities

Communicator Mobile enables mobile operators to offer more compelling, enterprise-grade solutions that go beyond simple voice services, incorporating connected communications modes such as security-enhanced instant messaging (IM), presence awareness and integrated VoIP, and opening new revenue opportunities for mobile operators and device manufacturers.

Driving Demand for Business-Class Devices

Communicator Mobile with Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 enables people to stay in touch with key colleagues, partners and customers to handle time-sensitive requests and make better decisions faster. As enterprises are looking to increase efficiencies among their mobile work force, Communicator Mobile can drive rich, real-time connection capabilities, such as IM and presence.

Better Call-Completion Rates

Live Communications Server’s presence awareness eliminates delays in locating and communicating with key work partners virtually anytime, anywhere. Presence enables people to determine the best way to reach someone (whether with IM, text messaging, e-mail or a voice call) and on which device, helping to increase call-completion rates and therefore driving more data traffic to mobile operators’ networks.

Standard Protocols for Flexibility

The architecture of Office Live Communications Server was built using the industry-standard protocol stack of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE), which gives developers the ability to add presence to existing applications and create useful presence-aware solutions. Microsoft supports SIP/SIMPLE because of its broad promise in the ecosystem of future communications, a potential that goes beyond the benefits of IM today. SIP/SIMPLE gives mobile operators many choices when building their infrastructures (media gateways, etc.) and is widely accepted as a key component of IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS), which network operators are building into network architectures.

How Can Customers Leverage Communicator Mobile?

Customers deploy the Communicator Mobile client with Live Communications Server to uncover new mobile scenarios, including the following, that offer a security-enhanced solution:
