Media Alert: Microsoft Helps Insurance Companies Avoid the “New Legacy,” Showcases Software-Plus-Services Demos at 2009 ACORD LOMA
Demos including Microsoft Silverlight, Microsoft Surface and Tellme help create connected experiences between consumers and their insurance carriers.

ORLANDO, Fla. — May 14, 2009

What: Helping insurance firms cut costs and transform themselves through software innovation, Microsoft Corp. will demonstrate its software-plus-services offerings at the 2009 ACORD LOMA Insurance Systems Forum. By embracing software plus services, insurance firms have the power of choice to run applications locally, in the cloud or a combination of the two. Technologies shown include the following:

Lighting up Web experiences for customers (and employees) with Silverlight. As insurance firms explore software-plus-services solutions to migrate applications to the Web, Microsoft Silverlight technology helps create vivid end-user experiences that are browser- and platform-independent.

Building stronger agent-customer relationships with Microsoft Surface. The natural user interface of Surface creates an exciting way for insurance agencies to break down traditional computing barriers between agent and customer. This demo will showcase how insurers can combine on-premises applications with real-time, Web-based data or a local datacenter, allowing agents to walk customers through interactive life insurance and annuity scenarios.

Tellme cloud-based voice platform improves customer service. Tellme Network Inc.’s cloud-based voice services platform delivers increased automation and faster, consistent service across multiple channels. Because it is a Web-based solution, it allows insurance firms to dynamically respond to increased call volumes, while reducing the overall cost of providing customer care.
