Introduction

In this introductory module we provide an overview of the Project 2010 Ignite training delivered worldwide between September 2009 and March 2010; introduce the four key investments of Microsoft Project 2010 (Unified Project and Portfolio Management, Simple and Intuitive User Experience, Enhanced Collaboration and Reporting, Scalable and Connected Platform), and conclude with summary of key Microsoft Project resources that will help you all deploy this exciting new release.

Planning, Design & Deployment

In the Planning, Design, and Deployment module we introduce Project Server 2010 architectural changes, typical farm topologies, discuss scenarios and best practices to deploy within a SharePoint farm, and present hardware and software requirements as well as deployment procedure.

Upgrade & Migration

We have significantly improved the upgrade process to Project 2010. It's now easier and more reliable. Upgrading from 2007 is as easy as backing up the databases and attaching them to the newly installed Project Server 2010. But being well prepared is a key. This session walks you through the process and outlines key resources and tools.

Demand Management

The Demand Management module introduces the great new capability of Project Server 2010 around Demand Management also referred to as Project Lifecycle Management. We will discuss the key components that enable the demand management functionality: Enterprise Project Types, Project workflows (Stages and Phases), Project Detail Pages, Approvals, and steps to implement your own governance process.

Portfolio Strategy

Nearly every organization has to justify their investments and make sure their decisions are aligned with the organization's strategic goals. Project Server 2010 offers integrated tools for rich demand management and first class portfolio selection functionality that assists executives in their decisions. In this module we will cover the process of setting up Business Drivers, aligning projects to Business Drivers, Project Prioritization and the selection process. We also point to other resources relevant to Portfolio Strategy.

Timesheet & Statusing

In the Timesheet and Statusing module we discuss some of the great new features that will enable customer to provide task status and/or do time entry. We present the new user experience, the new single entry mode to unify timesheet entry and task statusing, as well as reporting enhancement for timesheet and statusing and finally the out of the box Microsoft Exchange Server integration.

Topics discussed include: Unified Logging Service (ULS), Usage Logging, Health Reports, SharePoint Health Analyzer, Developer Dashboard, Password Management, PowerShell.

Development/Extensibility

Each organization has different business processes and requirements. Project 2010 is built with extensibility and rich customization options in mind. By being built on top of SharePoint Server 2010 platform you can build processes that seamlessly integrate collaboration, document management, reporting, project management, line of the business integration and much more. Both Project Desktop and Project Server 2010 could be extended by using Object Model or API to extent the core functionality. This session does not go very deep into the code, but helps you to get started at the right point.

Conclusion

In the Conclusion module Jan and I will answer frequently asked questions (FAQ) on each of the four key enhancements of Project 2010 (Unified Project and Portfolio Management, Simple and Intuitive User Experience, Enhanced Collaboration and Reporting, Scalable and Connected Platform), as well as FAQ for IT Professionals and Developers based on feedback we heard while delivering the Project 2010 Ignite training worldwide.
