In Microsoft’s ongoing effort to help protect families from online fraud, predators, and malware, we’ve partnered with Radio Disney Seattle to create a series of on-air safety programs for Seattle’s youth. The radio spots focus on online safety, security, and ethics.

To date, most communication about computer safety has been directed at parents, educators, and caregivers. The focus of this project is to promote online safety directly to kids. The spots are aimed at children ages 9 through 12. Currently, Radio Disney Seattle estimates it reaches 700,000 listeners each month.

The radio spots began airing in mid-February, and will continue every week into 2009, with the following goals in mind:

Use entertainment to deliver Microsoft’s safer computing tips to youth.

Have kids and characters deliver the messages directly.

Use multiple means of delivering the messages: on air (1250 AM Seattle), online and on site at various area cultural events and festivals.
