Case Studies
Aqua Connect (PDF file, 283 KB)
As part of its development of a Mac terminal server, Aqua Connect needed to integrate a widely adopted and recognized protocol. With the RDP protocol, Aqua Connect was able to offer its customers additional features and greater functionality. Aqua Connect obtained a license from Microsoft for the RDP protocol and, by accessing Microsoft protocol specifications, Aqua Connect reduced its development time without sacrificing compatibility with RDP devices currently available.
Blue Lane Technologies (PDF file, 368 KB)
Blue Lane Technologies provides solutions that help optimize business operations and availability with their inline patch proxy for enterprise servers. Blue Lane uses MCPP documentation where applicable to get the protocol information needed to implement the vulnerability shield which protects its customers.
ChosenSecurity (PDF file, 355 KB)
By licensing the Networking protocols through MCPP, ChosenSecurity was able to implement automatic digital certificate enrollment as part of its On-Demand PKI solution. Now, enterprises can take advantage of auto-enrollment and an outsourced Certificate Authority.
Egenera (PDF file, 445 KB)
Egenera licensed the MCPP protocols to implement a graphical desktop interface within the Egenera virtualized server environment. The interface is referred to as “Virtual VGA”. Virtual VGA enables users to access the Egenera servers that run Windows Server 2003 through an interface that is familiar to Windows users, and without the need for an external network.
Juniper Networks (PDF file, 305 KB)
Juniper Networks' Unified Access Control (UAC) solution implements the Windows Security Health Agent, Windows Security Health Validator protocols and the RADIUS Extensions for NAP (RNAP) protocol for Windows Server. This allows UAC to check the health state of Windows Vista clients without the need for agent download. RNAP allows UAC to talk directly to Windows Server Network Policy Server (NPS) to determine compliance to network access policy.
NeoGeo New Media (PDF file, 531 KB)
NeoGeo implemented Microsoft CIFS/SMB and WebDAV. Both protocols enable users to connect to the database’s hierarchical categories of NeoGeo’s digital asset management system via Windows Explorer, Mac Finder, or any other software, through a network map drive.
Starbak (PDF file, 282 KB)
In order to improve the ability of its product to support Windows Media formats, Starbak first licensed protocols under the MCPP program in April 2003. The MCPP documentation itself has been critical to the successful development of Starbak’s products. Using the documentation, Starbak has been able to review the implementation work it had already done and to correct its implementation to ensure interoperability with Windows Media Client.
VBrick Systems (PDF file, 396 KB)
When VBrick considered developing its VM Appliance product it was clear that it would be essential to have access to details of the required protocol documents. MCPP provided VBrick with good quality protocol documents along with Microsoft cooperation in clarifying the protocols when questions arose. Participation in Microsoft Plugfests gave VBrick’s engineers direct access to senior Microsoft developers to ensure easy adoption of the protocols.
