IDB:Microsoft Innovation Center for Tourism in Panama

Microsoft Innovation Center

The tourism sector has a significant economic impact in Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly for small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs).

Developing and promoting sustainable tourism is one of the main objectives of the IDB's Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF). Technology plays a central role in enabling SMEs in the sector to become globally competitive and capture international market opportunities.

Tourism is also an important crosscutting sector for the IDB-Microsoft partnership, putting in practice many areas of mutual collaboration including youth development, education, access to finance, e-Government and ICT access.

The IDB and Microsoft are partnering to support SMEs in tourism through the Microsoft Innovation Center for Tourism (MICTT) in Panama. The center aims to promote innovation and the creation of a local software economy based on solutions for tourist operators in the region. The IDB-Microsoft collaboration will bring new technology projects to the MICTT, focused on designing solutions for SMEs in Panama's tourism sector, while also promoting the creation of new software companies in Latin America and the Caribbean.
