Customizing Features in Microsoft Reader

There are a variety of ways to customize your view of Microsoft Reader, including customizing the font size and the way the eBook page appears on your computer screen.

  • Customizing Features

    From an eBook page

    • Tap the eBook's title in the Header at the top of the page.
    • Tap Settings from the pop-up menu.
    • Tap Go To on the Navigation menu.
    • Select an option from the Go To menu.

    From a non-eBook page (for instance, from the Library page)

    • Tap Settings in the navigation menu along the left side of the page.
    • Tap Go To and select a Settings option.

    Changing font size

    There are five font sizes to choose from in Microsoft Reader.

    From an eBook page

    • Tap the eBook's title in the Header at the top of the page.
    • Choose Settings.
    • Tap the line to the right of the indicator to make your font size larger.
    • Tap the line to the left of the indicator to make your font size smaller.
    • Tap Return in the navigation menu to return to your eBook.

    Note: Changing the font size will affect the page numbering of the eBook. Also, if you change the font size, the relationship of drawings to the underlying content may change.

    Full screen viewing

    Use the F11 key to hide the desktop and center the Microsoft Reader window over a black background. Pressing the F11 key a second time will restore the original view.

    Customizing ClearType

    From an eBook page:

    • Tap the eBook's title in the Header at the top of the page.
    • Choose Settings.
    • Tap Go To and select ClearType Settings.
    • You will be asked twice to select the text that you prefer.
    • After your settings have been reconfigured, Tap Return to resume reading.

    Note: You can also choose to restore the default configuration by Tap ing on the link Restore MS Reader default settings.

    Using Visual Guides

    The triangle near the eBook's title in the Header at the top of the page, and the ones on either side of the page number, are optional Visual Guides that can help you navigate quickly in eBook pages.

    • The arrow to the left of the page number shows that you can Tap that area to go backward one page.
    • The arrow to the right of the page number shows that you can Tap that area to go forward one page.
    • The arrow to the left of the eBook's title in the header shows that you can Tap that area to see a drop-down menu of navigation choices available from eBook pages.

    When you first use Microsoft Reader, the optional Visual Guides will be turned on. To turn Visual Guides off and on:

    • Tap the eBook's title in the Header at the top of the page.
    • Tap Settings in the drop-down menu.
    • Tap Go To and select Screen Settings.
    • When Visual Guides are turned on, a checkmark will appear to the left of the item.
    • Tap the box to turn this feature off or on.

    Note: When you turn visual guides on or off in an eBook, they will be turned on or off in all eBooks in your Library.
