Reading an eBook with Microsoft Reader

The Library acts as your home page in Microsoft Reader, and displays a list of all the eBooks stored on your device. To open an eBook from the Library, tap the title or cover.

    The red Navigation menu along the left side of non-eBook pages and the cover page of every Microsoft Reader eBook was designed to make it easy for you to use Microsoft Reader.

    From the Navigation menu

    • Tap Library to go to your Library.
    • Tap Shop to connect to online eBookstores.
    • Tap Help to see Microsoft Reader Help.
    • Tap Return to go to the previous Microsoft Reader screen visited.
    • Tap Settings to change the font settings, ClearType, screen settings, voice settings, and annotation settings.
    From the Go To menu
    • Tap Table of Contents to open a list of the eBook's contents. If no Table of Contents exists, this option appears dimmed.
    • Tap Most recent page to go to the last page visited.
    • Tap Begin reading to go to the first reading page of the eBook.
    • Tap Furthest read to go to the highest numbered page you have read so far.
    • Tap Annotations to open a list of any notes, comments, bookmarks, or drawings you have inserted. If no annotations have been made, this option is dimmed.
    • Tap About this title to read information from the publisher about the eBook. If no publisher information is included, this option is dimmed.
    • Tap Cover Image to open the eBook's cover.
    To use links to navigate

    To follow links from an eBook to the Web, your device must be connected to the Internet.
    1. Tap the linked text. Some linked text can connect to a Web site on the Internet.
    2. To return to the previous page, Tap the Title Bar menu at the top of the page, and then select Return from the menu. Note that the Return feature can be used only once; it does not store multiple locations.

    Riffle Control

    The Riffle Control makes it even easier to identify where you are in your Microsoft Reader eBook. Display the Riffle Control by right-Tap ing the page number at the bottom of the eBook's page. The Riffle Control is also available to manage active listening features that can announce Microsoft Reader functions.



    Use the Riffle Control to quickly move through pages

    1. Right-Tap the page number to see the Riffle Control.
    2. Tap the page arrows (Left page arrow andRight page arrow ) to move one page at a time.
    Note: If the arrows on the Riffle Control appear dimmed, you are at the beginning or end of the eBook.

    1. Tap and drag the Riffle Control until the page number in the number field matches the page number you want to see
    2. Release the mouse button to go to that page.
    Or
    1. Tap the section arrows (Left section arrow andRight section arrow ) to move one section at a time. Using section arrows provides structured navigation, which is an additional layer of navigation provided by the publisher of each eBook. If the eBook has no chapters or subsections, the double arrows appear dimmed.
    2. Tap the close box (Close X ) to dismiss the Riffle Control.

    Closing an eBook

    When you're done reading:

    1. Tap the eBook's title in the Header at the top of the page.
    2. Tap an option from the pop-up menu.
