Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients

Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options

Description

Determines the minimum security standards for an application-to-application communications session for a client.

Historically, Windows NT supports two variants of challenge/response authentication for network logons:

LAN Manager (LM) challenge/response

NTLM version 1 challenge/response)

LM allows interoperability with the installed base of clients and servers. NTLM provides improved security for connections between clients and servers.

Default: No requirements.

 Important

This setting applies to any Windows 2000 computers, but it is not viewable from those computers.
