To enable IPX/SPX file and print sharing on Windows 2000

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.

1.

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.

3.

Right-click the local area connection, and then click Add.

4.

In Local Area Network Properties, click Install.

5.

In Select Network Component Type, click Protocol, and then click Add.

6.

Click NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol, click OK, and then click Close.

7.

In Network Connections, on the Advanced menu, click Advanced Settings.

8.

On the Adapters and Bindings tab, under Connections, click the local area connection you are enabling IPX/SPX file and print sharing on.

9.

Under Bindings for Local Area Connection, under File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks, clear the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) check box, and then click OK.

 Important

Only perform this procedure if your home or small office computers are connected directly to the Internet through individual connections or using a DSL or cable modem connected to an Ethernet network hub.
