You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.
1. | Open Phone and Modem Options in Control Panel. |
2. | On the Modems tab, click the modem whose commands you want to log. |
3. | Click Properties, and then click the Diagnostics tab. |
4. | In Logging, select Append to Log if you are working on a computer running Windows XP Professional, or Record a Log if you are working on a computer running Windows 2000 Server. |

| • | To open Phone and Modem Options, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Network and Internet Connections. Under See Also, click Phone and Modem Options. |
| • | Click View Log to display the log file. This file identifies the modem, and displays information about how it is functioning. |
| • | Commands sent to the modem are captured in the file: Systemroot\System32\ModemLog_Model.txt. The path is usually C:\Windows\System32\. Model is the name of the modem as it appears in the list of installed modems on the Modems tab of Phone and Modem Options. |
