Capabilities:
MAP provides secure, agentless, and network-wide inventory that scales from small and medium sized business to large enterprises.
Heterogeneous Server Environment Inventory:
Know what’s in your IT environment. The MAP Toolkit provides a network inventory of IT assets remotely and without the use of agents. It identifies heterogeneous server environments that consist of Windows Server and Linux operating systems, including those running in a virtual environment. MAP 6.5 also automates the discovery of Linux-powered LAMP stacks.
Software Usage Tracking:
MAP 6.5’s new usage tracking feature provides consistent software usage reports for key Microsoft server products: Windows Server, SharePoint Server, Exchange Server, SQL Server, and System Center Configuration Manager. Run updated reports whenever you need to accurately assess current software usage and client access history in your environment. This reduces time and administrative costs for managing your server and client access licenses (CALs) and helps you to streamline the management of your software assets.
Readiness Reporting:
The MAP Toolkit identifies the currently installed operating systems in your IT environment. It provides detailed analysis of hardware and device compatibility and recommendations for migration to major Microsoft products, including Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Microsoft Office 2010. MAP also discovers SQL server databases and instances for consolidation scenarios.
Server Consolidation Reports:
The MAP Toolkit provides a detailed inventory of the servers on your network and the potential efficiency gained by consolidating them into fewer physical servers using Hyper-V.
You can use the Performance Metrics Wizard to gather information about the CPU, memory, disk, and network use of computers for a specified duration.
Reporting Limitations:
The Software Usage reports should be used as a baseline for CAL usage analysis rather than as an authoritative summary of software usage. Due to the wide variety of ways that software can be deployed and inventoried in your environment, the Software Usage Tracker cannot always produce accurate counts of server software and access to that software. These reports are for informational purposes only and should not be used as the sole source of information for determining software license usage compliance.
License Management Series - Guidance for MAP Toolkit 6.5 Software Usage Tracker
The Licensing Management Series of in-depth "how-to" guides can assist you in interpreting the MAP Toolkit 6.5 Software Usage Tracker reports. These white papers provide background about CALs and specific directions to help generate reports that you can use for software asset management purposes. This information is especially valuable for comparing with your purchased CALs; it is also useful for licensing "True-up" and licensing agreement renewal discussions.
