One of the design principles for great user experience is that a user interface should feature as much as necessary and as little as possible. Why? Because software applications and Web sites have become more complex and a lot of this complexity is passed onto the user interface. It is often said that users cannot cope with complexity. Yet, there is a difference between objective complexity and perceived complexity. What makes an application or a single Web page appear complex and unappealing? What can be done to make it simple and attractive? In this webcast, we present fascinating facts about human mental capabilities, we provide background on the factors that make Web user interfaces good or bad user experiences, and we share practical tips and tricks to help you design for great user experiences.

When you have two UI technologies like Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Microsoft Silverlight written in similar languages (XAML) but that run against different assemblies in different situations, it's not unreasonable to want to write a UI once and later be able to choose the best or both options with only a trivial amount of effort. In this webcast, we show you how to get the most out of your XAML-based applications and what architectural decisions can help enable these options from the beginning of the development cycle.

MSDN Webcast: ADO.NET Data Services for the Web (Level 200)

The new wave of Web applications are built on technologies such as Asynchronous Java and XML (AJAX) and Microsoft Silverlight, which enable developers to build better, richer user experiences. These technologies bring a shift in how applications are organized, including a stronger separation of presentation from data. The goal of ADO.NET Data Services is to enable applications to expose data as a Representational State Transfer (REST)-based data service that can be consumed by Web clients within a corporate network and across the Internet. The data service is reachable over HTTP, and uniform resource identifiers (URIs) are used to identify the various pieces of information available through the service. Interactions with the data service happen in terms of HTTP verbs, such as GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE, and the data exchanged in those interactions is represented in simple formats, such as ATOM/APP and JavaScript Object Notation (JSON).
