This video shares Microsoft’s Generation 4 modular data center evolution strategy. Our move is towards the pre-manufacturing every part of the data center: the IT, mechanical and electrical components as part of Pre-Assembled Components that we call an “ITPAC.” By eliminating over-provisioning and maximizing productivity on an ongoing basis these data centers can be flexible and environmentally sustainable to meet customer and business demands.

This video demonstrates how innovative software applications on intelligent devices (“clients”), complemented by Internet-based data storage and services (the “cloud”), will offer individuals increased control over their information while enabling more engaging, seamless experiences across their computers, cell phones and other devices.

ITNAmerica®, the first national non-profit transportation service for the aging population and the visually impaired, was founded with the goal of providing affordable, easy-to-access transportation in automobiles by matching seniors with paid and volunteer drivers in local communities. To make it work – and to grow the ITNAmerica service nationwide – required flexible and scalable technology that could be easily deployed and managed. The ITNAmerica development team turned to Microsoft® products and, with the help of Reliable Software, used a software-plus-services model to redesign its ITNRides™ software. The result is a highly scalable, flexible software solution that can be easily deployed to new ITN® affiliates and is opening up a huge potential market for the company.

The Library of Congress manages the world’s largest reserve of historical documents and artifacts, and it is always looking for new ways to use technology to elevate the learning experience for visitors and nonvisitors alike. The Library accomplished this mission when it teamed with Microsoft and two technology partners to complete work on its New Visitors Experience project. The team used Windows® Presentation Foundation to create interactive, on-site kiosks that enable visitors to virtually interact with three-dimensional models of artifacts and documents. The team extended the reach of this content with a companion Web site and used Microsoft Silverlight to help replicate a hands-on experience. Today, on-site and online visitors benefit from this mix of history and intuitive technology that supports a rich, interactive, and engaging learning experience.

Energy giant BP saved its employees when Hurricane Katrina struck, but the process of locating its people and material assets, and making decisions about their care, was time-consuming when every second counted. The company sought a better solution. That’s what BP has now with its Hurricane Management System, which combines the 3-D satellite imagery of Microsoft® Virtual Earth™ mapping software and real-time weather data with a visual representation of BP people and facilities. The solution uses existing BP infrastructure, including the Microsoft application environment. It saves BP crisis managers hours each day by automatically consolidating data from 20 sources. Most important, BP personnel worldwide can understand and respond to threats hours faster—with the potential both to better care for the safety of their workers and to save millions of dollars.
