RECOMMENDED: Use Silverlight in the 32-bit Internet Explorer process on x64 systems. Most browser plug-ins (including Silverlight, Flash, Java and almost all ActiveX controls) only work in 32-bit browsers currently.

Windows

  1. Verify your system requirements
    Make sure you are running a Silverlight-compatible Windows operating system and browser and that you have uninstalled any previous version of Silverlight or code name "WPF/E."

  2. Download Silverlight
    Click on the link below to go to the Silverlight installation page, then click the Install Now button to start.

    The browser will prompt you to either run or save the installation file (Silverlight.1.0.exe). Click Run to start the download. When the download is finished, the browser prompts you again to run the installer. Click Run to start the installation. Note that you must have sufficient administrative privileges to install Silverlight.

    Save Silverlight.1.0.exe to your hard disk. Once the download is finished, click Open. The installation starts.
  3. Install Silverlight
    • The Silverlight 1.0 installer installs automatically.
    • If you are running the Windows Vista operating system, you will be prompted for additional security permissions. To continue, you need to approve.
    • The installer then continues the installation.
    • After a successful completion in Internet Explorer, the browser page will be automatically updated. In Firefox, you will need to restart the browser. You can now start using Silverlight.
  4. Verify
    Verify your installation by experiencing the Silverlight site.
