New advanced GPS features: The new GPS task pane uses information from your connected, compatible GPS device to display your current location, speed and traveling direction.

Voice and text directions for Windows XP users: New Driving Guidance finds your location from a connected GPS device and combines it with a route you have created to give you voice-prompted driving directions.

Pocket Streets: Microsoft Pocket Streets makes it easy for you to create custom maps in MapPoint and then export them for use on your Microsoft Windows Mobile–based Smartphone or Pocket PC.

Microsoft Location Finder: New Location Finder uses your computer’s wireless network capability and a database of known Wi-Fi access points to display your location on maps, even if you do not have a GPS device.

New map style for low-light conditions: Makes it easier to view maps on your laptop computer.

How does MapPoint 2006 integrate with Office applications?

MapPoint 2006 is a stand-alone application in Office XP. However, it does enable users to seamlessly import data from Office XP applications such as Access, Excel or the Outlook messaging and collaboration client, and easily copy, paste and embed maps into work they are doing in the PowerPoint presentation graphics, Word or Publisher applications. MapPoint also enables users to geographically select information from maps that can be exported to Excel spreadsheets for further analysis or use. MapPoint smart tags recognize geographic information in the user’s Office document, and a MapPoint button is added to the toolbar in the Office applications. These tools allow users to insert a map and driving directions easily, and create maps from their data without leaving the Office application.

What is the country coverage for European edition of MapPoint 2006?

The European edition of MapPoint provides detailed street-level maps and address find capability for Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom. In addition, MapPoint European edition provides some street-level coverage, but does not support address find, for Andorra, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Guernsey, Hungary, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Monaco, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia and Vatican City.

What is the difference between MapPoint 2006 with GPS Locator and MapPoint 2006 Standard?

MapPoint 2006 with GPS Locator includes the Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. MapPoint 2006 standard does not include a GPS device.

What is the map and demographic coverage for MapPoint 2006 North America?

Microsoft MapPoint 2006 with North American Maps includes detailed geographic coverage for the United States, Canada and Mexico (cities and major highways only). Coverage outside of those regions is limited to political boundaries and populated places. There are more than 200 demographic and consumer profile variables in the United States from data supplied by Applied Geographic Solutions, Inc. (AGS), and Simmons. Microsoft provides an additional 45 country-level variables around the world. Currently MapPoint 2006 does not include Canadian variables.
