Reduce Operational Costs

The Systems Management Server Administration Feature Pack provides sophisticated tools you can use to reduce the operational cost of managing distributed Systems Management Server implementations—keeping the total cost of ownership low while allowing the number of deployed systems to grow when needed. Administrators can use the tools within the Administration Feature Pack to enforce conforming settings in the hierarchy, restore settings after a site is rebuilt, set up new sites quickly, and easily manage accounts and passwords.

Feature Pack Contents

ToolWhat It Does

Transfer Site Settings Wizard

This Administrator console snap-in wizard makes it possible to copy the settings from a source site to one or more target sites. Administrators can use it to enforce conforming settings in the hierarchy, restore settings after a site is rebuilt, or set up new sites quickly. Site configuration, package, and collection settings can be transferred. This tool also has a command-line interface to support scripting.

Manage Site Accounts Tool

Administrators can use this tool to manage accounts and passwords in use by one or more sites in a hierarchy. This is a command-line tool which you can use to audit, create, and reset various accounts used by Systems Management Server.

Elevated-Rights Deployment Tool

This tool helps you to deploy applications which require local administrator rights after a system restart, such as Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0 SP6a and Internet Explorer.

SMS Web Reporting Tool*

This tool provides a general purpose reporting solution and many built-in reports based on the rich inventory data hosted by Systems Management Server. It includes the following features:

Enterprise Agreement license True-up Reporting, to provide a simple and reliable way to report on installed applications.

Ability to create custom reports and links to reports you need to share with others.

Custom inventory reports that can be created by using Microsoft SQL Server™ views and the inventory schema.
