To Install SMS 2.0 SP4 or SP5 on Windows Server 2003:To Install SMS 2.0 SP4 or SP5 on Windows Server 2003:

Systems Management Server 2.0 Service Pack 5 (SMS 2.0 SP5) provides support for Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003, as does Service Pack 4 (SP4) with additional Quick Fix Engineering (QFE) updates, or "hotfixes." If you meet the minimum requirements, you can deploy Windows Server 2003 within your existing Systems Management Server site, as both an SMS system role and client.

In order to determine which Systems Management Server service pack you are running, refer to Determining Your SMS Version.

Minimum Requirements

Microsoft supports Windows Server 2003 as a client or server with SMS 2.0 SP4 and 5. Note the following exceptions:

SMS 1.2, whether client or server, does not support Windows Server 2003.

SMS 2.0 SP3, whether client or server, does not support Windows Server 2003.

SMS 2.0 SP4 and SP5 Site Server Support for Windows Server 2003

Windows Server 2003 is supported for all SMS server roles except Crystal Reports, which is not supported on computers running Windows Server 2003.

The table below lists the level of site system support in SMS 2.0 SP4 and SP5 for computers running Windows Server 2003.

To Install SMS 2.0 SP4 or SP5 on Windows Server 2003:

1.

Install SMS 2.0 Service Pack 2.

Install just the site server, not other site systems or clients.

Continue past the warning message "SMS Server 2.0 Service Pack 2 and earlier are not supported by this version of Windows."

2.

Wait for the site server installation to complete.

Wait for site component manager to install the new services (for example, SMS_EXECUTIVE) and start them. It usually take 5-15 minutes for site installation to complete, depending on the hardware configuration.

3.

Apply SMS 2.0 SP4 or SP5.
Note: For SP4, refer to the list of hotfixes in the table above which may be required depending on your configuration and the SMS product features in use.
