"My teacher knows how to bring history to life"

Microsoft's Commitment to a Lifetime of Opportunity
Everyone should have the opportunity to realise their full potential in the classroom, and the world at large. Empowered with the knowledge that can only come from a good education, individuals are better equipped to enjoy a more fulfilling life both at home and in the workplace.

Computers have a powerful role to play in making this vision reality. The Microsoft® Partners in Learning initiative aims to aid digital inclusion and overcome the fact that not every school and every country has easy, affordable access to this technology. It also provides the framework for teachers and students to acquire the skills they need to make the best use of that technology in teaching and learning.

ICT Skills Development

ICT Skills Development The Partners in Learning initiative aims to increase student learning and enhance teacher development. In this, Microsoft is partnering with educational experts to deliver resources, skills and high-quality development experiences and networking opportunities for educators.

We believe that using information and communication technology (ICT) can be a powerful catalyst to improving education for all. We strive to create sustainable success models for educational change by bringing our resources, practices, and programmes together in partnership with educational and government leaders.

Focus on Sustainable Community Development

ICT Skills Development Lonmin operates in the Marikana region of the ''platinum belt'' of South Africa, an area that has long relied on cheap local labour. But as mining has become an increasingly high-tech business, it requires a correspondingly high level of digital literacy. The company teamed up with Microsoft to train teachers how to incorporate information and communications technology (ICT) skills in the classroom, a move that has improved both the mining business and the local economy.
