You can now use the Microsoft® Speech Server (MSS) 2004 R2 Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 to help monitor, understand, and resolve issues and problems on the MSS platform. The MSS Management Pack provides a predefined, ready-to-run set of processing rules for use with MOM 2005 designed specifically for monitoring the performance and availability of MSS services and processes. The Management Pack can be used to monitor MSS across multiple computers and in a variety of IT infrastructure scenarios.
This Management Pack together with MOM 2005 allows you to do the following:
| • | Monitor important errors, warnings, and informational events that are placed in the application event log by Speech Engine Services (SES) and Telephony Application Services (TAS). |
| • | Monitor service availability |
| • | Monitor performance data. |
With the MSS Management Pack installed, MOM 2005 can detect MSS problems and deliver to administrators the operational knowledge and subject expertise they need to identify root causes and streamline problem resolution. In most cases, the Management Pack provides step-by-step instructions from MSS experts to help resolve issues detected by MOM 2005. The Management Pack also provides rules for automatically alerting administrators of critical operational problems with the MSS system. By detecting, alerting, and providing guidance for resolving critical events, the MSS Management Pack helps to indicate, correct, and prevent possible MSS outages.

MSS 2004 R2 is a server-based system that uses Web technologies, speech processing services, and telephony capabilities to extend existing or new ASP.NET Web applications for speech-enabled access from telephones, mobile phones, and Pocket PCs. The speech-enabled Web applications that run on MSS are based on the Speech Application Language Tags (SALT) standard and developed using the Microsoft Speech Application Software Development Kit (SASDK).
