Single Server Topology
A single server topology consists of the Speech Engine Services (SES) and Telephony Application Services (TAS) components of MSS installed on a single computer. TAS is required if supporting telephony (voice-only) applications. TAS requires a telephony card and associated Telephony Interface Manager (TIM) as well.
Distributed Server Topology
A distributed production server topology consists of Speech Engine Services (SES) and Telephony Application Services (TAS) installed on multiple computers. TAS is required if supporting telephony (voice-only) applications. TAS requires a telephony card and associated telephony interface manager (TIM) software for each TAS computer as well.
