Introduction

SQL Server Storage Solution Review Program is a specific SQL Server Always On program that enables storage solution providers to highlight those storage solutions and configurations via the SQL Server Always On labeling they have successfully reviewed against core functional Microsoft SQL Server storage requirements. The core requirements defined on this page must be met for reliable, highly available SQL Server storage systems. The program does not define or review the performance characteristics of storage solutions.

Note: The SQL Server Always On Storage Solution Review Program is not a Microsoft certification, qualification, or logo program. Microsoft makes no warranties or representations with regard to third-party storage solutions, including without limitation regarding the supportability of such third-party storage solutions. It is solely your responsibility to confirm the accuracy of the data and contents of a storage solution white paper.

Microsoft Exchange provides a similar program called the Microsoft Exchange Solution Reviewed Program (ESRP) – Storage. For more information, see Microsoft Exchange Solution Reviewed Program (ESRP) – Storage.

Program Overview

To be reviewed under the SQL Server Always On Storage Solution Review Program, a partner creates an SQL Server Always On solution white paper for that partner’s storage solution. The SQL Server Always On solution white paper outlines the storage solutions that meet the Microsoft Microsoft SQL Server SQL Server Always On Storage Review Program technical requirements as documented on the core requirements page. Each partner solution white paper must contain the storage product, features, and configuration settings that are required to meet the stated requirements. To request a review of an SQL Server Always On solution white paper, send e-mail to aossrp@microsoft.com.

For an SQL Server Always On solution white paper that satisfies all the technical requirements of the SQL Server Always On Storage Review Program, Microsoft will provide a link from a designated Microsoft Web site to the location on the partner’s Web site where that white paper is available. Such partners may make plain text references on their own Web site to indicate that their storage solution white paper is compliant with the SQL Server SQL Server Always On Storage Solution Review Program. However, a partner may not use any Microsoft logos or promote its storage solution as being endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by Microsoft.

Note: Microsoft does not provide certification of third-party solutions. For more information, see KB913945 - Microsoft does not certify that third-party products will work with Microsoft SQL Server.

To summarize, participation in the SQL Server Always On Storage Solution Review Program is comprised of five basic steps:

1.

A storage solution provider creates a solution whitepaper describing the product, features and specific configuration settings for the storage solution. The storage solution provider determines the format of the solution whitepaper, as the Always On Storage Solution Review Program does not define specific formatting requirements.

2.

The storage solution provider conducts a review of the storage solution to confirm that it meets the Always On Storage Solution Review Program technical requirements as described in this overview document. Note that the Always On Storage Solution Review Program does not define a testing methodology, and the “confirmation” step may be satisfied via code inspection.

3.

Once a documented storage solution has been successfully reviewed against the Always On Storage Solution Review Program technical requirements, the storage solution provider can either produce ancillary documention or modify the original solution whitepaper directly to indicate that the solution has been SQL Server Always On Storage Solution Reviewed. The reference created in this step must include references to this Microsoft SQL Server Storage Solution Review Program document, including the numeric version of the document used during the review process.

4.

The storage solution provider submits the storage solution whitepaper to Microsoft via the Microsoft SQL Server Always On Storage Solution Review Program alias: aossrp@microsoft.com. This submission should include a public URL where the document will be posted by the storage solution provider for public consumption.

5.

Upon receipt of the submitted solution whitepaper and the public URL from the storage solution provider, Microsoft provides a reference link to the designated public URL supplied by the storage solution provider.
