Overview

This paper compares SQL Server 2005 and IBM UDB DB2 8.2, focusing on features of interest to developers using Microsoft .NET and Visual Studio to develop applications. Because DB2 is available on a variety of platforms with different levels of functionality per platform, this paper limits its comparisons to DB2 UDB version 8.2, which runs on 32-bit versions of Windows, Linux, or Unix operating systems. This paper also describes application scenarios facilitated by new SQL Server 2005 capabilities. This paper is primarily targeted at architects and database application developers, but is also aimed at technology decision makers and information technology managers.
