System Requirements for SQL Server Reporting Services

Review the table below to determine the minimum system requirements needed to run Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services.

Minimum Requirements

Processor

Intel Pentium II or compatible 500-megahertz (MHz) or higher processor

Operating System

SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services can run on the following operating systems:

•	Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition
•	Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
•	Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition
•	Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4 (SP4) or later
•	Windows 2000 Advanced Server with SP4 or later
•	Windows 2000 Datacenter Server with SP4 or later
•	Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later¹
•	Windows 2000 Professional with SP4 or later²

Database³

•	SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition with SP3 or later⁴
•	SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later⁵
•	SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition with SP3 or later⁶

Memory⁷

256 megabytes (MB) of RAM; 512 MB or more recommended

Hard Disk⁸

•	50 MB of available hard disk space for Report Server
•	100 MB of available hard disk space for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1⁹
•	30 MB of available hard disk space for Report Designer
•	145 MB of available hard disk space for samples and Books Online

1	Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000 Professional only support Reporting Services Developer Edition.
2	Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000 Professional only support Reporting Services Developer Edition.
3	A SQL Server database is required for the Report Server component. Report Server can be installed on the same computer as SQL Server or on a separate computer.
4	Use the edition of SQL Server 2000 that corresponds with the edition of Reporting Services you will be running.

Additional Software Required to Use Specific Features in Reporting Services

•	Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 (any edition) or the standard edition of Visual Basic .NET, Visual C# .NET, Visual C++ .NET Standard, or Visual J# .NET to use Report Designer. Report Designer can be installed on the same computer as Report Server components or on a separate computer.
•	Internet Explorer 6.0 or later is required to access Report Manager from client computers.

Reporting Services can be installed on the same computer as SQL Server. The client component of Reporting Services (Report Client) can be installed on the same computer as the other components or on separate client computers. Also, various report rendering formats may have different requirements. For example, Portable Document Format (PDF) files require Adobe Acrobat Reader, while .xls files require Microsoft Excel XP or later.
