Installing SQL Server CE Version 2.0

Before installing SQL Server 2000 Windows® CE Edition (SQL Server CE) version 2.0, you must complete the following steps:

1.

Review the system requirements.

2.

Obtain and install Microsoft eMbedded Visual Tools 3.0.

3.

Make sure you have at least one of the following Software Development Kits (SDKs):

Pocket PC SDK (Windows CE 3.0). These are included in the eMbedded Visual Tools 3.0 product files. These kits are needed for ADOCE 3.1 to install successfully.

Handheld PC 2000 SDK. You can download the Handheld PC 2000 SDK from either of the following sites:

Note: Because there is no emulator available, the readme file contains information on how to purchase and set up a CEPC for development of Handheld PC 2000 applications. For more information on Handheld PC 2000, visit the Microsoft Mobile Devices site.

4.

Ensure that you have Microsoft ActiveSync 3.5.

Verify that you have Administrator rights on the target system and that the Administrators group has Change permission on the installation directory.

6.

Obtain the SQL Server CE version 2.0 installation files.

Run the Server Tools installation on the computer that will act as the Internet Information Services (IIS) server.

Run the Development Tools installation on the computer you will use for SQL Server CE development. This process installs the Windows CE Data Access 3.1 components and then the SQL Server CE components.

Note that all versions use English during setup, but will install localized Microsoft Data Access Components 2.6 (MDAC).
